I don’t know about any one else but I just love this weather. It is nice during the day and cool blanket weather at night.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Gregory Allan and Ruby Mercier who celebrated their day August 30.

Special wishes go out to Phyllis Deitz who celebrated her birthday on Sept. 2. Word has it that she was feted with a wonderful dinner surrounded by her family and a good time was had by all.

Well, we escaped two storms and all we got was some rain and a little wind. It did get people out to the beaches even though they were closed to see the surf. It looks like the opening didn’t get any bigger but the waves were pounding through.

Once again the Hotel Kresel was open for the weekend. Jake Birner returned to the Island for another fun filled long weekend with his girlfriend Carrie Coe. Unfortunately so did the last of tropical storm Danny. They didn’t get to go swimming, but had a relaxing weekend walking around Edgartown, taking a tour of the Vineyard and finishing the trip with lobsters on the beach in Menemsha.

This is one of my favorite times of year at the nursery; the chrysanthemums and ornamental peppers are in. When they bloom, the nursery looks like Oz, with all the different colors. The sunflowers are in full bloom and the bees just love them. You can almost pet them as they are so intent on getting their nectar. Once they are done, the birds take over and start on the seeds.

I am still following Facebook and am enjoying my younger friends who are getting ready to go back to school. Some are going shopping for school clothes, some are excited as it is their first year in high school; also, there are the seniors who are looking forward to visiting colleges; and, of course, there are those who are counting down their last days of freedom, before going back to school and homework.

Don’t forget, school starts next week, so look out for children at crosswalks.

Have a safe long weekend and drive carefully if you are headed off-Island.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
