Edgartown selectmen this week voted to accept two bids for town-owned lots put up for public auction by the town last month. One lot on 14th street south in Ocean Heights was sold to Carol A. Cox for $21,095. Another on Weeks Lane sold for $18,200 to Chris and Donna Kenny. The new owners are both abutters to their new properties. Selectmen rejected bids for 26 other properties because they came in under the assessed value.

The lots were originally put up for auction in July as unbuildable properties, but after a lack of response from bidders, selectmen amended the conditions of sale to allow abutters to build on the properties. At their regular meeting Monday, selectmen said they will decide later whether to hold another public auction for the lots that remain unsold.

In other business, selectmen rejected a request from Sharky’s Cantina to begin serving alcohol at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings, agreeing instead to allow the restaurant to begin serving at 11 a.m.

The board also approved a request by Norman Rankow to move a garage from Pierce Lane to his property on Katama Road. The Pierce Lane property, once the home of the late Henry Beetle Hough, was purchased in June by John and Amanda Waldron, who plan to tear down the house.

Selectmen also appointed Bruce Rosinoff to serve on the Edgartown Ponds Committee, a subcommittee of the town conservation commission.

And they set Oct. 27 as the date for a special town meeting. The warrant for the meeting is still unfinished, but is expected to include the matter of town payment to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, which remains unresolved after the annual town meeting and election last spring when voters approved a ballot question to withhold the town’s commission assessment. The town is legally obligated to make the payment.
