Planets

Jupiter is the brightest planet in the southeastern sky after sunset. There is no star or planet that matches it in brilliance. Jupiter is in the zodiacal constellation Capricornus.

The red planet Mars rises well after midnight and is in the zodiacal constellation Gemini and moving towards Cancer.

The planet Venus can be seen high in the eastern sky as most parents and children rise for school. Sunrise is coming late in the morning. With sunrise being just before 7 a.m., it is possible for those rising an hour early to see Venus.

September Rain

There may not have been an unusually high number of rainfall days in September but they did seem to occur near weekends. The Vineyard received a total 3.53 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service Cooperative Station in Edgartown. Of the 30 days in the month, there were 11 days when there was measurable precipitation.

The most rain fell last weekend, over two inches, and there is more forecasted for this weekend. This is an above average year for rainfall, so far.
