I usually start with the weather of the week, so when I saw this post on Facebook by Marcia Valentzas I thought it was only appropriate to use it here: “Don’t knock the weather, as nine-tenths of people could not start a conversation if it didn’t change once in a while.”

Happy birthday to all who celebrated this past week. Big balloons go out to Bethany Cobb and Caitlin McHugh, who celebrated their day Oct. 19; John Morris, Oct. 20; Hunter Cleary, Michael Johnson and Mary Morano, who celebrated their day Oct. 21; Nicole Freitas, Oct. 22; and Izabella Morris on Oct. 23.

Special wishes go out to Christopher Dolby, who celebrated his day Oct. 12, and to John Costa, who celebrated his day Oct. 13.

When you use your Stop & Shop card, you can earn money for the Edgartown School. You can do this by logging on to this Web site, stopandshop.com/aplus. Then put in your 13-digit card number and the last three letters of your last name. Or call 1-877-275-2758 to register by phone. The Edgartown School identification number is 06789. Please tell all of your friends and family to do this! Send an e-mail to all of your contacts, and hurry, the program ends in March, so sign up today before you go to Stop & Shop! Thank you for supporting our school!

Our sympathies go out to the Gonsalves family for the loss of their mother and grandmother, Mildred Rocker. Millie worked at the Stop & Shop for a while and was always smiling and ready to help customers. She had a great passion for her children and doted on her grandchildren with great pride.

I guess the word is out that Donaroma’s will not be having the Evening of Enchantment this year. Every year the Donaromas start off the Christmas in Edgartown with a theme and the entire nursery is decorated. The hope is to have it again soon but this year will be a pass. I know this is a disappointment to many but we will look forward to next year in hopes it will come together again.

I rode through town the other day and noticed that the goblins were on Main street and families were putting up more scarecrows in front of stores. They are put up by the charter school every year and it never ceases to amaze me the creations they come up with.

Back to the weather, those two nor’easters back to back saw a lot of boats pulled out of the water and trees branches trimmed by Mother Nature. Unfortunately, that means a lot of leaves have fallen, which might affect our colors.

The weather did not interrupt the Patriots, and there were a lot of Islanders at the game this past Sunday. Thanks once again to Facebook, we were able to track the weather and the great pictures they got from their seats. Haley Krauss was there with her sister Melanie, their dad Richard, and David Rossi. Haley reported that her feet had never been so cold. Looking forward to her home and bed, she soon learned the boats were canceled.

Also at the game was Kate Walpole, Brenda Perry and Brooke Raymond.

Have a great week, and keep the home candles burning.
