The Edgartown School presents the classic musical play The Wizard of Oz on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the beloved film adapted from L. Frank Baum’s timeless children’s tale about a Kansas girl’s journey over the rainbow; The Wizard of Oz opened on August 15, 1939 and is ranked among the top 10 best movies of all time. The Wizard of Oz received five Academy Award nominations, including best picture and captured two Oscars – best song (Over the Rainbow) and best original score, plus a special award for outstanding juvenile performance by Judy Garland.

Come see Edgartown’s version of Dorothy’s journey with new friends the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion as they follow the yellow brick road to see the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Hum along to all your favorite songs such as We’re Off to See the Wizard, Somewhere over the Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road, and Merry Old Land of Oz.

The cast includes more than 25 Edgartown School students in grades five through eight who will sing, dance and act their way into your hearts. The school production includes special guest performances by school principal John Stevens as Uncle Henry and assistant principal Anne Fligor as Aunt Em.

With stage direction by Donna Swift, musical direction by Beth Carr, costumes by Alison Tayor, sets by Jeff Enos, and technical direction by Bob Brown, the show is full of some new surprises along with everything you love about Oz.

On Saturday night the show is preceded by a special dinner served by the cast’s parents and teachers. Dinner theatre reservations are made by calling Pam at 508-627-3316, extension 401. Tickets for the show only are available at the door prior to the 7 p.m. curtain on both nights. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for kids, and $25 for a family.
