The Martha’s Vineyard Mediation Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To commemorate the milestone, we are hosting an event on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Dukes County Court House in Edgartown.

It was through efforts of the Hon. Herbert Tucker Jr., and then-clerk magistrate Thomas Teller that the Edgartown District Court Mediation Program was established in 1984. With their support and guidance, the program moved from a court-based to a community-based mediation program, eventually renamed the Martha’s Vineyard Mediation Program Inc. in 1989.

The program continues to provide state certified mediation services to the district, probate and family and superior courts in Dukes County. To the Vineyard community, the program provides services in the conflict areas of tenant/landlord, elder affairs, land use, workplace, divorce and family affairs.

The event will honor Mr. Teller and the late Judge Tucker for their vision in alternative dispute resolution practices — along with highlights of the program’s 25 years.

The public is invited to attend the celebration.
