The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribal Youth Council will be sponsoring their spaghetti dinner this evening at the Tribal Building at 7 p.m. Tickets will still be available at the door.

The Aquinnah community programs committee will host an afternoon of baking cookies and making decorations on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Aquinnah town hall. Our exhausted “ACPC grandmothers,” Betty Joslow and Kristina Leslie, are looking for young families to assist them on the ACPC and for new ideas for upcoming events.

It is anticipated that the holiday party will be held at the Aquinnah town hall on Saturday, Dec. 19. Now that the old town hall has been renovated and the Aquinnah library has moved across the street to the school house, more winter activities are being planned.

The ACPC is seeking donations of cooking utensils, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, a cookie sheet, mixing bowls, and other assorted kitchenware that anyone might generously donate to stock the kitchen for community events.

Congratulations to those who won a seat on the tribal council Sunday, at the annual tribal election and general membership meeting. Al Clark, son of the late Clarence A. Clark, Sr. and Mary (Perry) and a descendant of the Cooper family, came in with 78 out of the 144 votes cast. Al has extensive corporate experience and has a consulting business. He has a B.S. in chemical engineering and an MBA and has served on the budget and finance committee for the tribe over the past year. Others elected to the council on Sunday included Leigh Moreis, Jonathan Perry and Beverly Wright, who all have previously served.

Julianne Vanderhoop has changed her pizza nights to Saturday afternoons while the weather is still good. The bakery is buzzing every morning with delicious snails, which are the best right out of the oven, plus breads, cookies, coffee cake. Stop by and see what is on sale for the day.

Condolences to the family and friends of Bette Alley who passed away on Tuesday at her Oak Bluffs home. Bette was a mainstay at the Oak Bluffs town hall for many years and was always an organizer of the Tuesday night bingo games at Sacred Heart. She will be sorely missed by not only her family but so many in the Vineyard community where she has spent her well-lived life always assisting where needed.

Condolences to the family and friends of Joan Murphy who passed away on Monday at Windemere. Joan was the volunteer receptionist at the Howes House for the Up-Island Council on Aging and assisted many elders in need. She is survived by her daughter Jill Bouck and her husband Lynn and their children David and Elizabeth.

The weekend was certainly cold and blustery. The northeast winds kept the surf roaring and stripped trees of their leaves. The remnants of flower gardens are still welcoming with their final blossoms of the year. The deer are rutting and are already roaming around the roadways, so be extra careful.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving as you gather with family and friends. Be mindful of those in need and safe on your journey whether near or far.
