The Vineyard Sinfonietta will present selections ranging from Handel and Corelli, to Beethoven, Chopin, Benjamin Britten and even a modern piece by Island resident Heidi Schultz at a concert at the Trinity Methodist Parish House in the Camp Ground in Oak Bluffs on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m.

This well-established Island amateur classical and Pops string ensemble will perform Ms. Schultz’s composition Contemplation, featuring Island cellist Jan Hyer, who will be accompanied by the rest of the group.

Sinfonietta guest artist John Gorman, a new resident of West Tisbury, will accompany the string players on piano. Professor Gorman, who has just retired from his music teaching post at the County of Morris (N.J.) College, has spent many summers on the Island and now is a year-round resident here. He will perform an etude for piano by Chopin as a solo presentation. Next, the string players will join him in the Piano Quartet, Opus 16, by Beethoven.

Another Islander, Martha Hudson, mezzo-soprano, will round out the concert with two songs arranged by Benjamin Britten. She will be accompanied by the strings and piano.

Everyone is welcome to attend these free concerts. Donations will be accepted.
