The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival’s Family. Film. Feast. series continues this holiday weekend at the Chilmark Community Center with Why Wait?, a program of family friendly shorts featuring Lost & Found, based on the book by Oliver Jeffers.

The Saturday, Dec. 26 evening begins at 5 p.m. with dinner prepared by a local chef using food donated by Island farms; dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children. There will also be a musical performance by a Vineyard musician, followed by the film; all tickets are $6, available at the door.

The organizers of the series teamed up with the Gazette to bring you reviews by Island kids each month before the Family Film Feast presentation. This week, Dashiell Christy gives a sneak peak at the films in Saturday’s showing.

Live Music

I like this movie because it is really rocking and has awesome sounds. This movie is very interesting from my perspective because the instruments come alive, and they start playing this weird song. I don’t know what it’s called. I think this movie is really awesome.

Flights

This movie is about a man who wants to act like a child; he slides down the stairs like a child. I think it is very unexpected and funny. Also, the man is very odd from my perspective. I still don’t get the part where he looks at the children, and he looks like he gets this weird feeling when they’re running up and down the stairs. The ending is unexpected because he goes to the top of the stairs and he looks like he’s having a very bad time; he drops his cane down all the flights of stairs, but then he gets onto the railing and slides down.

Roberto the Insect Architect

Roberto is a termite who wants to be an architect. When he gets served food, he always used to play with it. When he got old enough, he learned to be an architect. But all the architects he went to for a job were mean to him. I liked this movie because he makes a garbage pile, a really big one, into four big houses. He wanted to make stuff. And from then on, everybody else’s parents say, “If you play with your food you might end up like Roberto the Insect Architect.” I think this movie is grand!

Doggie

This movie is about a boy who wants some attention from his mom and dad, but his little sister and brother are getting all of it. Soon enough he finds a way to get some attention by acting like a dog. I think it is funny because when he gets out of bed and he sees all the dogs out in his yard, he gets out of bed and goes out and plays like a dog with them. His dad tries to call him back, but he doesn’t come back. Soon enough, his dad figures out how to get his son to come back by calling him like a dog is called and then the boy finally gets some attention. I think it is funny and has really cool sounds.

The Happy Duckling

The Happy Duckling is made fully out of paper and is funny. It’s very colorful and the duck is trying to follow the boy and the boy is trying to get away from the duck. I think this kind of animation is called stop frame animation, which takes a lot of time to make.

Rosa Summer

In this movie, this girl named Rosa Summer is listening to this song on her earphones and whenever she passes somebody they hear it and the first time she sees all these people dancing to it and the group gets bigger and bigger and there are lots and lots of people. I like it because it is a really cool song with a really awesome beat to it.

Lost & Found

This movie is about a boy who finds a penguin at his door. He is very curious about the penguin and he goes to the library and looks up how to get the penguin back to Antarctica. I think this movie is really cool because it is animated and has no words. At one point, a giant octopus comes up and you would really think he would be bad, but he actually turns out to be good. I didn’t expect that to happen. But before that, he finds these rubber ducks in the sea because a big box of them fell over off a ship. The rubber ducks are cool because there are lots and lots of them. They’re cool because they look funny when the boy puts his rubber ducky with them. I liked the movie because it was really funny and colorful.

I like them all. They were awesome.
