Hilary Russell Minot of Boston and David Anthony Capato of New York city were married on Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Edgartown, where they met at a clambake five years ago.

The couple said their special vows to each other on this sunny Saturday at the Federated Church, where the ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Jerry Fritz.

The ceremony was followed by a dinner dance at the Edgartown Yacht Club, where guests enjoyed themselves from sunset to midnight, dancing to the ever-enticing band, Sultans of Swing.

Two of Hilary's attendants were her sisters: Amory Cummings Minot was her maid of honor and Constance Gardner Minot was a bridesmaid, along with Donna Capato, the bridegrooms sister, and Heather Hendelson, a mutual friend of the bride and bridegroom.

The ushers included Eric Klaussmann, who was the best man and a resident of Edgartown, Thomas Alps, Kevin Thacke and John Scrima.

The bride attended schools in Brookline before going to the Groton School in Groton, and then went on to receive her achelor of arts in psychology from Princeton University. She works at a pharmaceutical firm in New Jersey.

The bridegroom, a lifelong resident of New York city, attended the Trinity School in Manhattan and the Brooklyn Technical High School before entering the New York City Police Academy. He has served with distinction for almost 20 years with the department, where he holds the rank of sergeant in the intelligence division.

The couple plans to live in New York city.

The bride is the daughter of Gale Winslow Minot, formerly of New York city and now resident in the Boston area, and Winthrop Gardner Minot, of Cohasset.

The bridegroom is the son of Diane Elizabeth Capato and the late Anthony Joseph Caputo, both New Yorkers.

The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Hobart A. H. Cook (Molly), who has been a summer resident of Edgartown for more than 40 years. Her three granddaughters, Hilary, Amory and Constance (Coco), have all spent summers there since they were born, and still spend many happy days and weeks with their grandmother, sailing, swimming or picknicking at the Chappaquiddick Beach Club or on Cracktuxet Beach, along with walking a vast collection of dogs.

The girls also worked during their summers on the Island. Hilary taught sailing at the Edgartown Yacht Club; Amory was a counselor at the Chappaquiddick Beach Club and both girls were popular babysitters. Meanwhile, Coco chose to be up-Island at Arrowhead Farm, where she indulged her passion for horseback riding. One of her favorite teachers was the highly-accomplished rider Ali Warriner, the daughter of Linda and Sam Warriner, also Island residents.

Mrs. Cook was introduced to Martha's Vineyard by her late husband, Hobart Amory Hare Cook, known as Hoby. It was his love of sailing and above all, the people, that so endeared him to the Island.

He was a prominent member of the Edgartown Yacht Club, and he and Molly were always involved with the race committee during their summers on the Island. Hoby was also a member of the Reading Room. He died in 1983.
