Congratulations to Aquinnah police officer Steve Mathias, who was recently recognized by the Aquinnah selectmen for his accomplishments at the police academy. Steve was awarded the Top Gun award and Highest Academic Award in a class of forty-nine students.

Condolences to the families and friends of Nancy Abdelnour, Robert Silva and Holly Thomas.

Although we were fortunate to miss the northeaster over the weekend, we were certainly not as lucky with regard to Wednesday’s snowstorm. This is the annual United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. Impact Week in Washington, D.C., but most tribes were unable to travel to D.C. to even attend the meetings, and as of Wednesday evening, they were experiencing more snow on top of the approximately four feet already on the ground. When will our tribal travelers get home?

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone.
