Writers in Courage

The Vineyard’s own William Styron had this advice for writers: “Whether or not you write well, write bravely,” he said. Starting March 9, on Tuesday evenings through the month, the Bunch of Grapes will offer an opportunity for all writers to be brave. The bookstore will host a weekly open mike night for writers. Anyone currently working on a novel, short story, poetry or essay is invited to participate. This is an opportunity for writers to share a selection from a work in progress and for the Vineyard community to come out and hear what their neighbors are working on behind closed doors.

A sign-up sheet will be posted at 6:45 p.m. at the Bunch of Grapes; readings start at 7. The first seven people to sign up will be the readers for that evening. All are welcome; you do not need to have had your work published. Each writer will have up to seven minutes to read their work. The seven-minute limit will be strictly enforced by a 240-pound bouncer named Bruno.

After the readings, there will be a question and answer discussion, along with complimentary beverages and snacks as well as book browsing.
