The Aquinnah Public Library is sponsoring a Spring into Spring festival and potluck on Tuesday, March 2 at the Aquinnah town hall. At 3 p.m. there will be spring botanical face painting; at 4:15 p.m. Deborah Costine, puppeteer, will present The Twig Family in the Oak Tree; at 5:30 p.m. the community potluck dinner will begin (please bring your favorite spring dish to share with family and friends), followed by delectable desserts. Finally at 6:30 p.m. there will be live music with Ballyhoo. Please join in the fun for the entire family to think about the arrival of spring after such a long, gray, cold, snowy winter. Coffee hour at the library on Saturday mornings has been a great time of community conversation and refreshments.

Noah James Manning cheerfully welcomed his grandparents Bill and Joan Kistner to his new home on Wednesday. This is their first Aquinnah visit in eight months and they were delighted to view the grand results of all these months of planning and building.

All the best to our Aquinnah Tribal Health Director Ron MacLaren and his wife Terrie as they begin their new life at Fort Belvoir in Virginia next month. Ron has been in the United States Navy Reserves for more than 30 years. He spent eight months in Kuwait during 2007 and 2008, and has since been promoted to rear admiral in the reserves. He has now been recalled to active duty for the next two or three years. He will be heading a new unit that he will create. Terrie herself has had an illustrious military career, as have their sons Brian and Brett. Terrie has also worked as a nutritionist for the Aquinnah tribe and for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. Ron will begin his duties in Virginia next month while Terrie works on the interior decorating of their new admiral quarters on base. We will look forward to their vacations on the Vineyard while Ron returns to his active duty status over the next two or three years. They will be greatly missed by many.
