Welcome to the world, Thomas Dommerich Dunn! Thomas was born on Monday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 9.5 ounces, and is 19.5 inches long. Thomas is the son of longtime seasonal Islander Jessie Slocum and her husband Brett Dunn. Both — or I should now say all three — reside in Boston. His Island grandparents are Scott and Carol Slocum. Everyone is healthy, happy and beaming!
George Balco is very happy to announce the engagement and forthcoming wedding of his daughter Catharine to Alexander Grennan, both currently of New Haven. As a noted non-traveler, George is overjoyed that it will be an early summer, on-Island wedding. He is pleased for the opportunity to provide a substantial economic stimulus to the local economy and plans to follow the government example and use deficit financing. He has also notified the Steamship Authority of the large traffic boost likely for the usually slow weekend after Memorial Day.
Our dear friend Chris Paffendorf made it to her new digs in Albuquerque, N.M., last week. Well, actually the new digs are being built while she temporarily rents. We are happy for her new adventure but already miss her sorely in this neighborhood.

Bingo continues at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Legion Hall. On the first Sunday of the month, March 7, the legion will host its monthly off-season breakfast. I’ll see you there.
Next Thursday is a short day at the Tisbury School. Our library has planned games for ages five and up at 1 p.m. This is in addition to the usual youth programs.
The Washington, D.C. League of Women Voters is preparing a fund-raising cookbook in honor of the league’s 90th year. The book will be edited by Goody Braun, whose byline, Goody Solomon, has appeared on food and nutrition articles in local and national press for many years. Here’s a chance to share your culinary skills. Please send your recipes to Goody; she will update them and return revisions for your review. Everyone is welcome to contribute. If a recipe comes from a cookbook, please be sure to give accurate reference. Include any anecdotal information if it is a family recipe, and note if you want your name credited. The birthday bandwagon pulls along Natalia Oliveira today. Tomorrow is a party for Ryann Gold, George Giosmas, Steve Bradley, and Rafaela DeOliveira. Sam Alley and Fella Cecilio must celebrate on Sunday because leap year babies don’t get their own date this year. March 1 is shared by Nichole Daly and Maura Dickson. March 2 belongs to Leide DePaula and Athena Verna Parker. March 3 is claimed by Aaron LaPiana. And on March 4 Alison Ferreira, Sean George, Justin Eli, and Michael Baptiste take the cake.
