Stewards of Our Island: Local Concerns. Local Solutions. That is the theme of this year’s Wampanoag Environmental Health Consumer Expo 2010, slated for Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. The Expo is open to the entire Island community, free of charge. There’s an exhibitor hall going up in the cafeteria, with representatives from public health, healthy housing, local non-profit environmental organizations, green businesses and others, covering a range of environmental health issues.

The goal of the Expo is to provide information to Martha’s Vineyard residents that will enable them to create and maintain healthier homes, improve personal health and protect the Island’s environment. For example, this year’s exhibit hall will feature an interactive display, staffed by the Aquinnah Wampanoag Youth Group, which will allow attendees to locate their watershed address on a map and also to view a watershed model that illustrates run-off water paths on the Island.

At 2 p.m., there will be a cooking demonstration with chef Robert Lionette, featuring locally foraged and grown foods. Jan Buhrman’s Kitchen Porch catering will also be offering a food concession to the general public featuring locally inspired dishes.
