Cynthia Mitchell will return as a West Tisbury selectman after an eight-year hiatus. Mrs. Mitchell won her seat without contest in the annual town election yesterday with 172 votes. She will take the seat being vacated by Dianne Powers, who did not seek reelection to a second term.

Voter turnout was low in a year that saw no contests and no questions on the ballot; 229 voters cast ballots, just over 10 per cent of the number registered in town.

Also elected were F. Patrick Gregory, town moderator, 203 votes; David A. Merry, board of health, 205 votes; Richard Cohen, assessor, 185 votes; Katherine Logue, treasurer, 196 votes, Brent B. Taylor, tax collector, 192 votes; Tara J. Whiting, town clerk, 208 votes; Jeremiah Brown, tree warden, 197 votes; Virginia Jones and Daniel Waters, library trustees, 178 and 200 votes respectively; Sharon Ann Estrella and Jonathan Revere, finance committee, 158 and 130 votes respectively; Susan Silva, planning board, 190 votes. Town clerk Tara Whiting was the top vote-getter. No one took out papers for park and recreation board; there were a number of write-in votes but the results were unclear at press time last night.
