All donors who give blood at the American Red Cross drive on Tuesday, April 27, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Portuguese American Club on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs, will receive a free umbrella.

School vacations and mild spring weather have contributed to a drop in blood donations. As a result the Type O negative blood supply has dropped to critical levels and is expected to dip lower through the end of the month.

Type O negative blood donors are encouraged to donate blood as soon as possible. Because Type O negative blood can be used for all patients in need, it is crucial that there is a sufficient supply. The Red Cross notes that each day the Northeast Division needs to collect 3,000 units of blood for patients and hospitals. With your help, they can ensure blood will be available for patients in need.
