The cat population at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard remains the same as last week. We have Dixie, the beautiful orange, white and black calico; Binx, the black and white sweet cat with the long white whiskers; and Phoebe, the orange and white cat who loves her basket to curl up in. Frankly we can’t understand why these three cats have not been adopted — they are real beauties. And then there are Cyrus and Miss Misty, who are fast becoming the shelter mascots. They are allowed to come out of their cages and greet people who come to visit.

We will be getting some kittens in a few days — please stop and see them. They will need to be checked by a vet and given their first shots, but you can come and visit and put your name on the adoption-pending list. All of the older cats would make wonderful companions for anyone who doesn`t have the time and energy to train a kitten; all have been neutered or spayed and are up to date on their shots.

The shelter hours are: Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
