Four Island groups have been nominated for excellence awards: Adult and Community Education Program of Martha’s Vineyard (ACE MV), Holy Ghost Association of Martha’s Vineyard, Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, and Vineyard Nursing Association.

Given by the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, the awards honor organizations making a difference in their community. A nonprofits awareness day will be held at the state house on June 14.

Adult and Community Education of Martha’s Vineyard (ACE MV) provides educational opportunities for enrichment, practical training, college credit and lifelong learning that bridge generations and cultures to improve the quality of life for all members of our community. They work in partnership with the public schools and over 30 community organizations and many individuals dedicated to these same goals.

The Holy Ghost Association of Martha’s Vineyard began in 1930 and is a group of people dedicated to the advancement of social and civic interests on Martha’s Vineyard. They are 1,400 members strong and everyone eagerly donates time, resources, money or whatever they can for the good of the organization so that they can in turn help others.

The Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, Inc. is a member-funded nonprofit arts organization dedicated to screening independent films, movie classics, documentaries, and world cinema for diverse audiences of all ages throughout the calendar year. In 2009, the society presented over 80 films, to over 12,000 patrons.

Vineyard Nursing Association is a nonprofit provider of compassionate, high quality and state of the art care for patients and families with acute, chronic, or advanced illnesses. Committed to the interdisciplinary management of palliative pain and symptom control issues through every stage of illness, they provide skilled nursing, restorative and other therapeutic services and homemaker/home care aide services
