The early childhood program at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services has been named one of the best in the state.

The Island program is among the Top 10 High Performing School Readiness Organizations in Massachusetts, according to Social Impact Research, a part of Root Cause, a firm dedicated to mobilizing the nonprofit, public and business sectors to work together.

“We are extremely proud of Debbie Milne, program director, and Judy Thomas, child care program coordinator, and all of the teachers and staff [there],” said community services executive director Julia Burgess. “They consistently go above and beyond.”

The analysts examined school readiness — how well prepared a kindergarten-bound child is cognitively, socially, emotionally and in math and literacy for success in school. Beginning with 400 applications, they then looked at 125 center-based programs in Massachusetts that serve at-risk preschoolers. Researchers focused on three areas: an education-focused curriculum, a strong parent involvement program, and community partnerships that provide supplementary services to children.
