Isn’t the new road paving on Franklin street wonderful? I believe it even took care of what I called “the reverse speed bump” down at the corner of Centre street. Now, don’t let this make you think you can speed on my road!

The neighborhood is getting noisy. Welcome back to Fred and Sally Benson from their Florida winter and to Paul and Marge Howes from Christmas in Connecticut.

Patrick Williams, noted geologist, will explore the origins of the major landscape features of Martha’s Vineyard and review the influence of glacial and marine process across the Cape and Islands. Join him for this special lecture at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum’s library in Edgartown at 3 p.m. tomorrow, May 15. There will be a reception to follow in the Pease House Galleries. Members are admitted for $8, nonmembers get in for $12. I’ll see you there.

The sale started yesterday, but come to our high school between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday next week and see what our horticultural students have done. At very reasonable prices you can purchase all kinds of things for your gardens to make your summer really bloom.

Speaking of blooming, don’t forget John Crelan runs his annual Bloomsday event, with performances and celebration of the works of James Joyce, on June 16. I’ll update you on time and place, but mark your calendars.

Our library holds its monthly mini-sale tomorrow, noon to 3 p.m., with the added feature of a free VHS exchange. Remember, bring your donations to the desk, please do not leave them outside the door or in the book drop.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Jesse Elsasser, Emily Targbeh and Becky Esposito today. Tomorrow belongs to Jeff Sylvia. May 16 is for James Seccombe. May 17 is a party for Jenna Bagnall, Martin Simoni, and Wesly Coelho Souza. On May 18 Iole Gardella, a.k.a. Nonna, a.k.a. Mom, turns 93! And on May 19 Dot Eldefry, Zach Charter, and Tony Gramkowski take the cake. Many happy returns.
