Please Adopt Us

Are you missing a cat from the Turkeyland Cove area of Edgartown? The Edgartown animal control officer brought a lovely tuxedo (black and white ) intact male cat to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard that was picked up as a stray in that area near the Fay estate. He will be neutered next week and given his shots and then be ready for adoption if no one claims him.

The cats available for adoption include Cyrus, a big, black lovable boy; Binx, a black and white cat with white whiskers; Phoebe, who is orange and white; and Dixie, a calico. Sox is an orange and white male who came in with Mantra, a black cat who will follow you everywhere; we would love to have them adopted together because they are closely bonded. Zephrus is another beautiful black cat, and Dolly is another tuxedo (the Island seems to be full of black cats this spring).

We still have one precious all-black kitten, a male whose brothers were all adopted; he has beautiful blue eyes. His mother has been spoken for, and we hope that the kitten will go with her, but if not he is ready to find a home.

And last but certainly not least is Miss Misty, an FIV positive cat who has been at the shelter the longest. The shelter will forgo the adoption fee or at least reduce it greatly for someone who wants to give her a home. (Adoption fees are suggested donations and in many cases we can offer reduced fees, especially if the cat is an older animal who has been at the shelter for a long time.)

We also have Louise, the guinea pig who comes with her own special cage.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call us at 508-627-8662.

We need volunteers; please call Lisa at the shelter to sign up for hours if you are available.
