Please Adopt Us

Once again the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is overflowing with black cats — they are all handsome and friendly and have been spayed or neutered and had all their shots. And they need to be adopted! Won’t you please come and take a look? Their names are Binx, Mantra, Zephrus, Dolly, Walter, Blackie and of course Cyrus. We also have two all-black male kittens who are about 12 weeks old, and a cat named Misty who is still looking for just the right person to take her home. And we have Phoebe, the orange and white female cat.

And Louise the guinea pig is still with us; she is adorable and comes with her own cage.

Don’t forget the Celebration of Pets at Sunset Lake on June 19 from noon until 2 p.m. We desperately need volunteers to help with all the activities; if you have some time to give, please be there by 11:30 a.m.

On July 3 the Ramsey Lewis Trio will play a benefit concert for the shelter and the Friends of Oak Bluffs. If you have never heard this jazz legend, you will be in for a treat. General admission tickets are $75 and $50; patron seats are $200 and V.I.P. seats are $100. The concert is at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center. For more information, visit the the Web site islandliveentertainment.com, or call the shelter during shelter hours at 508-627-8662. Hours are Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

And as summer begins, a reminder to anyone who has lost a pet — please call the animal control officer in your town (the nonemergency number for the communications center is 508-693-1212), or call your vet to report it. We have had so many stray cats turned in lately, and we know they belong to someone.
