Paul and Marge Howes just returned to the Island from a round of celebrations, including the third birthday of granddaughter Olivia and the kindergarten graduation of their grandson, Aidan Gomez Blanco. Aidan graduated from Good Day Kindergarten in Milltown, N.J. His parents are Javier and Julie Gomez Blanco. Aidan’s paternal grandparents are Angel Gomez Moran and Felisa Blanco Matus of Madrid, Spain. While they could not attend the festivities, the children will catch up with Angel and Felisa during their annual visit to Spain for the month of August. Meanwhile, Javier, Julie and kids will leave their East Brunswick home and be on Island before you know it! Congratulations, and welcome to all.

After a brief hiatus last summer, the Performer’s Workshop is back this year. Offering training, practice, and recitals in voice, piano, and other instruments, Dr. Mareda Gaither-Graves of our neighborhood and Dr. James Ian Nie of Wisconsin are once again offering their talent and help. The workshop, a nonprofit organization, runs from July 7 to July 21. The participants so far are from as far away as Wisconsin and as near as on Island. If you are interested in participating, taking private lessons, or just learning more, call Mareda at 508-693-3437 or 1-914-260-9718. I shall inform you of performance dates as I receive them.

Ed Colligan wants me to remind you about Tuesday night lobster rolls, and/or chowder, at our American Legion Post 257. The time is 4:30 to 7 p.m. Eat in — fine air-conditioning — or take out. We are in no way in competition with the well-established and well-beloved Grace Church Friday night lobster roll tradition; it’s just, who can wait a whole week? July 4 is almost upon us and Ed also needs our help putting up the more than 450 flags at the cemetery for our Avenue of Flags at 7:30 a.m. on that day, and help take them down at 3 p.m. I’ll see you there.

It’s late notice, but tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. at the P.A. Club there is a fundraiser for Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living, a much-needed supportive day care program. Tickets are $10 at the door, cash bar, deejay, door prizes, silent auction, what more could you want? I’ll see you there.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Phil and Gail Derick and Len and Georgia Morris on June 27. Joe and Joan Didato celebrate their anniversary on July 1.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Carly Simon, Camilla Balbino, Ashley Willoughby, Suzanne Webb, and Jack O’Callaghan today; tomorrow is shared by Eileen Whiting and Charlie Mead; June 27 belongs to Michael Wilson and Lance Pachico; June 29 is for John Doyle, Alexander Douglas Grant Jr., Lynn Weber and Flavia Stanley; July 1 is a party for Dick Clark, Mya Jewett Rendall, Cynthia Schilling and her granddaughter, Jenev Schilling; and on July 2 Jean Dowling, John Scott and Penelope Bonelli take the cake. Many happy returns.
