Motorist Injured

An Island woman was seriously injured during a single-vehicle accident early Monday morning at the intersection of Old County and State Roads in West Tisbury.

Laura Stone, 26, of West Tisbury, was driving north on State Road at about 1:40 a.m. when the 1997 Jeep Wrangler she was driving veered off the road, struck a split-rail fence and flipped over several times. Ms. Stone later told police she swerved to avoid hitting a deer. No citations have been issued. West Tisbury police said yesterday the accident remains under investigation.

Sgt. Jeffrey (Skipper) Manter said Ms. Stone suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. She was transported by ambulance to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. West Tisbury police, fire, and ambulance responded; Tisbury police assisted with directing traffic.
