Margot Datz and her magical artwork return to the Grange Hall in West Tisbury Saturday, July 24, for one night only, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. This is her first show in three years, and was sparked by the release of her new book with author Patty Schaal, Nighttide on a Vineyard Farm, for Jan Pogue’s Vineyard Stories, the Island-based publishing house.

“I had such an enchanting time creating the paintings for this book,” Ms. Datz said. “I love a grand project, and creating the illuminations afforded me the opportunity to explore the Vineyard from the eyes of owls and the pinkletinks’ perspective! I wanted rich, luscious works that captured the magic of nighttime here, the moon, and its light on the sea, and to paint earth and animals. I know I am known for my more oceanic subject matter — the mermaid metaphors — but I also harbor a tremendous love for the land, nature, and where water and earth meet. This show is evidence of my love of nature and the wonder it holds for me.”

Author and illustrator of A Survival Guide for Landlocked Mermaids, with Simon and Schuster, Ms. Datz has expanded her mystical vision also to include the forests and woodlands. Yes, there will be mermaids too, but more. Along with original works and illustrations, limited edition signed prints will be available, as well as a book signing, with author Patty Schaal on hand to personalize first edition copies. Ms. Datz calls her rare shows “love-ins for the Island . . . and I am all for that!”
