Shaw Cramer opens its third Double Feature special exhibit — presenting the art work of Leslie Baker and Eric Jensen in the main gallery with Elizabeth Lockhart Taft and Eileen Braun in the upper spotlight gallery — with an artists’ reception on Friday, July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Island artist Leslie Baker, known for her landscapes, shows her broad talent with a collection of still life oil paintings called Shades of Gray. Each painting is composed of subjects with personal meaning to her, with attention to the subtle gradations of colors and shadows.

Eric Jensen has been showing his handbuilt porcelain at the gallery since it opened in 1995. With a master’s degree from Cranbrook, his focus is primarily dinnerware and vases with his signature style of elegantly understated imperfection.

Island plein air painter Elizabeth Lockhart Taft continues to explore new landscape points of view. Working in oil on linen or panel, she deftly interprets the light, color and forms of the Vineyard. She prefers to work only outdoors, watching and waiting for the desired colors of land and sky to paint.

Eileen Braun is one of the gallery’s newest artists. Shrimp splash vessels with pods combine with textural white work and galaxy vessels. She works in porcelain creating biomorphic sculptural forms inspired by the sea, land and sky.

This Double Feature, a collection of well established artists working in classic independent styles, will run through August 13 at Shaw Cramer Gallery at 56 Main street, Vineyard Haven. For details, call 508-696-7323 or go online to shawcramergallery.com.
