Martha’s Vineyard Magazine highlights a diversity of subjects in its August 2010 issue, including the fate of retired ferries, where to spot migrating shorebirds on the Island, and the winners of the magazine’s second annual photo contest.

Also in the August issue, a family, a couple and a single sailor talk about their floating homes in Vineyard Haven harbor with writer Elaine Pace. Sam Bungey recounts his attempts to connect with President Obama last summer, while Leuco-the-Portuguese-water-dog (aided by writer Nicole Galland) describes the sublime pleasures of an Island dog’s life.

The August issue of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine is on newsstands now through the end of the month, along with the 25th Anniversary edition and Martha’s Vineyard Magazine’s Spring–Summer Home & Garden issue.

The 25th anniversary issue revisits, updates, reprints, or excerpts 25 years of stories, profiles, and photo essays to reflect what has happened on the Island through the years. Tom Dunlop, James Lengyel and June Manning are among the longtime Island residents who contributed.

The Spring–Summer Home & Garden explores an intensive native-plant landscaping project by Peggy Schwier at a new home in Katama, the Island’s burgeoning wine culture, Emily Post’s garden legacy of dahlias in Edgartown, growing healthy trees, deer-resistant plants, and more.
