It’s dinner out again for the President and Mrs. Obama, who are at State Road restaurant in West Tisbury on Tuesday night with Vernon and Ann Jordan and longtime friends Eric and Cheryl Whitaker.

Earlier today, in drizzly, windy and gray weather, First Lady Michelle Obama lunched with girlfriends at the Atlantic Boathouse on Edgartown Harbor. At about 2 p.m., after almost an hour and a half at lunch, the First Lady left in a motorcade without shopping at nearby stores which had prepared fitting rooms with dresses and shoes for her, after their space had been swept by Secret Service agents.

Deputy press secretary Bill Burton said the Obamas are having a great time. On Monday night the President and First Lady waved to a small crowd gathered in the rain as they left the Sweet Life Cafe in Oak Bluffs, the same restaurant they enjoyed last summer. They were joined there by the Whitakers and close friend and senior staffer Valerie Jarrett.

The rain has not dampened spirits at Blue Heron farm, Mr. Burton said, where the First Family was playing board games (Taboo as well as Scrabble; the President reportedly beat Ms. Jarrett at the latter), watching movies, reading books, and getting some good down time with each other.

The President’s assistant for counterterrorism and homeland security John Brennan told a press briefing at the Mansion House this morning that the United States now has less than 50,000 troops in Iraq, noting that the draw down was completed one week ahead of the target the president had set.
