Amanda Kate Shallcross and Daniel Arnold Zane were married on Saturday, August 21 at the Aquinnah Lighthouse. The wedding reception was held at the Beach Plum Inn in Menemsha.

Patricia Barrett, rector of the St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Falmouth, and a college friend of the mother of the bride, officiated.

Mrs. Zane, 28, is in her final year of law school at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. She graduated from the University of Delaware, where she competed on the Delaware equestrian team. She has worked as a child protective specialist for the city of New York, and as a paralegal at Alston & Bird in New York, N.Y.

She is the daughter of Deanne and Craig Shallcross of Pleasantville, N.Y., and Martha’s Vineyard. The bride’s mother is retired executive vice president of marketing at TIAA-CREF, the pension company, and also from Emeriti Retirement Health Solutions. Her father is cofounder and partner of LCP Capital, an investment management firm in New York city.

The bridegroom, also 28, is a construction project manager for WDF Inc. He graduated from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., with a degree in mechanical engineering, and was captain of the university’s varsity football team.

He is the son of Claire and Howard Zane of Pleasantville, N.Y. The bridegroom’s mother is the technical director of the cardiovascular diagnostic lab at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. His father is currently working as a construction engineering manager for the Shaw Group. Before that, he was the town engineer for the town of Mount Kisco, N.Y.

Amanda and Daniel have known each other since they were two years old, when they were in the same preschool class in Pleasantville. The save-the-date card for their wedding was their 1984 preschool class picture. They were friends throughout childhood and part of a large group of friends that grew up together. It was only after college, when the bridegroom and bride had moved into apartments two blocks from each other in Manhattan, that they began dating.

On the first New Year’s Eve after Amanda and Daniel had moved to New York city, they found themselves together at the same New Year’s Eve party along with many of their childhood friends. At the countdown to midnight, the bridegroom kissed the bride, and suddenly they were more than just friends.

The following summer, Amanda brought Daniel to the Vineyard, and it became a very special place for the two of them. They quickly decided that they wanted to be married on the Vineyard because of its special meaning to them and because they wanted to share the Island experience with their friends and family.

The bridegroom’s parents hosted a welcome clambake dinner for all guests at the Shallcross home in West Tisbury on Friday night to kick off the wedding festivities. Guests stayed in the various towns on the Island. Buses transported the guests to the lighthouse ceremony, to the reception, and to the after party in Edgartown.
