Doctor of Philosophy

William C. Carpenter, a 1990 graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, completed a PhD in history at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., on August 7. The title of his dissertation is Croppies Lie Down: Orangeism in Low and High Irish Protestant Political Culture, 1790-1801. Mr. Carpenter graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., in December 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He lives in Falls Church, Va., with his wife Ellen and is employed by the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Glenn and Mary Jane Carpenter of Edgartown.
