The Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club’s annual Fall Shotgun Shoot, open to the public, begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28.

Everyone is eligible for prizes in this shotgun marksmanship competition, on the day before the shotgun deer season opens.

The highly competitive events include the Egg Shoot at 50 yards, which always draws crowds of participants and spectators. The Standing Deer Target event is a 50-yard competition for slug shotguns with both open and scoped sights. Prizes will be awarded for both categories. The Over the Shoulder Trap Event is for the best five-out-of-five shots. One shooter will be named the club’s Top Gun Champion for 2010.

A small entry fee will be charged. Spectators are welcome to watch for free. Refreshments will be made available through the end of the event at 4 p.m.

This day is open to all Island hunters so they may sight in and calibrate their shotguns for the upcoming deer season. The club makes its facilities available as a safe, controlled place to prepare for the deer season.
