Eisie Show and Talk

When the online magazine Digital Journalist chose Alfred Eisenstaedt as photojournalist of the century — over Edward Steichen, Gordon Parks, Margaret Bourke-White, Larry Burrows, Robert Capra, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastiao Selgado and others — editor Dirck Halstead described the man’s impact this way: “Henry Luce, as he was creating Life Magazine, understood that Eisie was the prototype for this new breed of visual storyteller. Eisie, in turn, created the form and shape of the photo-essay that provided the foundation on which other photographers would build.”

Next Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. Chris Morse, owner of the Granary Gallery at the Red Barn, will talk about Mr. Eisenstaedt, and some of his iconic images will be on display at the Vineyard Haven Public Library. Light refreshments will be served following the talk.
