Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard and the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival present a January Film and Feast at the Chilmark Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 8.

At 5 p.m. a series of shorts called Time Travel opens the evening. This program features shorts from around the world geared toward kids but guaranteed to delight and intrigue everyone from one to ninety-one. The slate of films is curated by Lindsey Scott, the director of children’s programs for the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival. (See a child’s eye view of the evening’s entertainment at the right of this page.)

The kids’ program is free to festival members. The cost for nonmembers is $5 for kids and $10 for adults. Family memberships are $95 and among other goodies gives members access to the film festival’s entire catalogue (that’s 10 years and counting) of adult and children’s movies, free of charge.

Following the shorts will be a dinner and movie care of the folks at Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard, plus music by Iridescent Pheasant.

The dinner will include local fare prepared by chefs Robert Lionette and Jan Buhrman. After dinner there will be a screening of the documentary One Man, One Cow, One Planet. This film is a celebration of the work of biodynamic pioneer Peter Proctor and highlights the success of marginal farmers across India. It is an optimistic David vs. Goliath tale of globalization and one New Zealand man’s quest to save the world.

The doors open for the dinner at 7 p.m. and the one-hour film begins at 8:30 p.m. A 15-minute discussion concludes the evening.

Tickets for both the dinner and movie will be available at the door on a first-come basis. The cost is $20 for Slow Food members and $25 for nonmembers. Everyone is asked to bring their own table setting and choice of drink.
