Colony Collapse Disorder: Although not a household name yet, it is a phenomenom affecting the way we live and eat.

Honeybees, an essential link via pollination in the survival chain of hundreds of species of fruits and vegetables, are disappearing all across the planet.

On Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Chilmark Community Center, Slow Food MV will present a screening of The Vanishing of the Bees which documents this mysterious and potentially devastating epidemic. The movie is part of their Bee My Honey Brunch which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the importance of beekeeping and the challenges of bee colonies. In addition to the movie and brunch there will be a beekeepers’ discussion and panel.

All ticket buyers are entered into a raffle for a bee starter kit.

The cost for the event is $12 for members, $16 for nonmembers and $6 for children.
