Fire Breathing and Fun Loving

The three-D kids’ flick How to Train Your Dragon this week won three Visual Effects Society awards, including outstanding animation, so it’s definitely one to see on the big screen rather than popping in the DVD in the living room when the ankle-biters are getting too antsy.

Lucky, then, that the Capawock Theatre is hosting a special matinee screening on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m.

Tickets are a bargain $5 per person for this special fundraiser for students who will provide the entertainment next weekend at the Vineyard Playhouse, in the Fourth Grade Theatre Project.

How to Train Your Dragon is a finalist for the best animation Oscar this year, up against The Illusionist and Toy Story 3.

The film centers on a plucky misfit Viking boy named Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, who befriends a dragon named Toothless and turns out to be stronger, wiser and braver than the grownups. There’s tenderness, there’s beauty, and of course there are exhilarating aerial battles where hearts and dragons soar.

Perfect way to spend a gray and rainy afternoon.
