The Vineyard Tennis Center, Workout and Spa hosted its winter classic tennis tournament on Jan. 22 and 23. Tournament proceeds were donated to Doctors Without Borders for Haiti.

The draw hosted women’s doubles for 3.5 players and under. Jeanne Holenko and Tammy King won the event, playing tiebreakers in each of their last three matches. They bested Kelly Hess and Carlene Gatting in their first round 7-5, 5-7 and 10-5 in the third set tiebreaker. Mollie Lewis and Julie Lively challenged them to the end, taking the first set 6-3, losing 1-6 in the second set and going 10-4 in the tiebreaker. The finals showcased another seesaw match against Ann Williamson and Natalie Krauthauer.

Jeanne and Tammy won the first set 6-2, were challenged 2-6 in the second set but held their own to win the third set tiebreaker 10-4 and the championship.

The consolation finals were won by Sue Peltier and Susan Stevens who won three consecutive rounds on Sunday. They showcased their team strengths against Susan Johnson and Edie Blake and Heidi Stevenson and Sally Segal. They were challenged in the finals against Leo McHugh and Michelle Bettencourt, winning their first set 6-4 and then losing 4-6 before hanging on to the third tiebreaker 10-5.
