Please Adopt Us

Once again we seem to have an abundance of black cats at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard — perhaps it has something to do with the cold weather. We have two beautiful black female cats named Hope and Aggie; they are sisters and we would love to see them go to the same home. They will be spayed soon and then will be ready for adoption. Two new, sweet, gray and white calico cats joined us this week and as soon as they are vet checked and receive their shots they will be available for adoption. One needs to be spayed.

Other cats are Binx, the black cat with the long white whiskers; Woody, a long-haired gentle boy; Max, a declawed gray and white; Maxine, our only tabby; and Alexander, who looks like a big gentle lion and who we discovered likes to be brushed.

The one dog at the shelter is Sasha, a really loveable Staffordshire terrier who is only eight months old but already knows some commands and is very smart and full of fun. She would make a great family pet.

Last week this column thanked the Vineyard Veterinary clinic for its help but neglected to mention two other vets who have also been most generous. Drs. Steve Atwood and Jennifer Everett at Animal Health Care Associates have also been most generous with their time and assistance — thank you so much!

The shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Volunteers are needed; call for information.
