The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) have announced that Gary Simmons will be the club’s assistant coach for the 2011 season.

Mr. Simmons has been the varsity baseball coach at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School for the previous five seasons. He also spent five years as the high school’s junior varsity head coach.

In addition to coaching, Mr. Simmons is the founder and president of Vineyard Baseball, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving baseball on Martha’s Vineyard. Since 2002, he has overseen the fund-raising, construction and maintenance of a new baseball facility on the campus of MVRHS. He was also instrumental in the creation of the first senior Babe Ruth baseball summer team based on Martha’s Vineyard.

Mr. Simmons and his wife, Erin, and their two children, Avery and Micah, live in Edgartown.

The Sharks will begin their inaugural 2011 FCBL season in early June. They will play 22 regular season games at the Vineyard Baseball Park at the high school.
