Short, Stunning Celluloid

Short on length but long on talent, the Oscar-nominated short films are usually gems of wonder. Trouble is, no one gets to see them. They don’t play in movie houses and the actual Oscar presentation for these films usually gets cut out of the Oscar telecast.

Talk about getting no respect.

Luckily, here on the Island Richard Paradise of the MV Film Society isn’t just gaga for the big boys. On Saturday night, Feb. 12 he will be showing the entire cast of nominated live action shorts. On the following Saturday, Feb. 19, he will screen the nominees for best animated short.

The screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Katharine Cornell Theatre at 54 Spring street in Vineyard Haven. Doors open 30 minutes prior to screening time for admissions. Admission is $8 and $5 for film society members; at the door only.
