Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is pleased report that our cages are emptying fast; we have just six beautiful cats left available for adoption. They include Binx, a black cat with white whiskers who has been there the longest and is a sweetheart and would make a wonderful pet for someone; Phoebe, a ginger and white kitty who gets along well with the other cats and would love to have a lap to curl up on; Woody, an all-black long-haired cat; and Maxine, a sweet gentle tabby. Our two new cats are Foxy Lady, a beautiful short-haired tortoiseshell who was given up because her owner died; and June, a stray who wandered into the kitchen at the Harbor View Hotel — so she has very good taste — and was caught and brought to the shelter.

Our one dog is Bella, a boxer cross who has captured the hearts of everyone at the shelter. She loves all the other animals, children, adults and other dogs. Stop by and take her for a walk; she loves to ride in cars too. She has a lovely coat and won’t need much brushing. She is so gentle and meets everyone who comes in the door with a wagging tail. She is completely house-trained and responds to simple commands.

A reminder: If you have lost a pet, please call the animal control officer in your town by dialing 508-693-1212; this is the non-emergency number for the communications center and they will contact animal control for you.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care.
