Book Group Assembles

The Edgartown Library’s book group’s next meeting will be on March 29 at 4 p.m. The book under scrutiny will be The Fiddler in the Subway by Gene Weingarten.

Mr. Weingarten is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and this book is a collection of his essays and columns. If that sounds dry, consider the subjects: In search of the town that truly defines the “armpit of American,” convincing virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell to give performances in subway stations like an ordinary busker and the author’s quest to find the girl he had a crush on in the second grade.

These are no mere stunts, either. They are the fuel this master storyteller uses to create his art. That’s how good the writing is.

Then start reading.
