Beatlemania at the Oak Bluffs School

It is billed as O.B.eatles, and when you get past the oddity of the name it is actually quite accurate. The kids at the Oak Bluffs school have been eating the Beatles.

To be more precise, the kids, under the direction of musical maestro Brian Weiland, have been on a steady diet of Beatles songs in preparation for their spring musical taking place this weekend at the Oak Bluffs School. The show is a musical review highlighting 20 songs from the Beatles’ large oeuvre. There will be duets, quartets, choruses and solos representing each member of the band; yes, they even found a Ringo tune to perform.

The students will be backed by what Mr. Weiland describes as the “best band that has ever stood on this stage.” The band includes Doug Brush, Steve Tully, Boaz Kirschenbaum, Thallysson Ribiero and the wailing Weiland boys themselves, dad Brian and son, Liam.

Traditionally, the spring concert was always under the purview of the junior high. But the previous performance of Annie, when younger orphans were needed to fill out the ranks, changed all that. Now the younger grades are demanding representation. Plan to see and hear some pint-sized moptops, Lennon at age six.

The performances take place tonight at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 14 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. All shows are at the Oak Bluffs School.
