Name That Bird

Long before there was Twitter, there was Birdathon. On May 13, Mass Audubon kicks off its 24-hour Birdathon in which teams contend to spot the most species in the state. This fun annual event, for people of all abilities and ages, offers birders and nature enthusiasts the opportunity to participate in friendly competition while raising funds for Mass Audubon.

The contest starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13, and runs through 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. A children and family birding hour will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at Felix Neck.

Even if you can’t join a team, you can still participate by pledging money, being a Virtual Birder or following the hashtag #birdathon on Twitter.

To join a team, make a donation, see a list of prizes, or get more information, contact Felix Neck at 508-627-4850, or visit massaudubon.org/birdathon. To become a Virtual Birder (open to any one) and compete for the High Flyer prize, create a fundraising page at firstgiving.com/massaudubon.
