Join Lyme Task Force

The Cape and Islands Lyme Disease Task Force, an advisory body to Lyme disease prevention efforts in Barnstable County and the Islands, is looking for new members.

The Barnstable County Commissioners, the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, and the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment, through their research, outreach, public education and prevention programs, endeavor to educate the public on the prevention of this potentially debilitating disease. The task force advises these and future efforts. In addition, the task force is pursuing legislative efforts to assist those affected by Lyme disease and to direct attention to the increasing threat posed by the disease.

Professionals from the medical field as well as individuals affected by the disease are encouraged to participate. The task force meets approximately twice a year.

If you are interested in serving on the task force, please contact George Heufelder, director of the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment, at 508-375-6616, by June 15, 2011.
