Who’s the Best of the Vineyard? Winners in Martha’s Vineyard Magazine’s hotly contested competition were announced last night at a party at Flatbread Pizza at Nectar’s in Edgartown.

While Jeremy Berlin walked his fingers down the keyboard, the Net Result, Sharky’s Cantina and Offshore Ale walked away with multiple honors in dining categories, with the Scottish Bakehouse, the Black Dog, Giordano’s and Slice of Life hot on their heels. Winner for the new category, Best Sushi, was the Lookout Tavern in Oak Bluffs. ArtCliff Diner in Vineyard Haven was named best breakfast.

President Barack Obama was named the Person You’d Most Like to Have Lunch With, squeaking by Island chanteuse Carly Simon.

Fishermen voted Wasque and Menemsha top spots, while among the hikers, Ceder Tree Neck Sanctuary edged out Menemsha Hills for best nature walk. The fishing charter boat Skipper continued its reign as favorite, with Tomahawk Charters the runner-up. For sailing charters, Mad Max out of Edgartown took top place, with the Black Dog Tall Ships out of Vineyard Haven following.

Wheel Happy in Edgartown raced away with Best Bike Rental, and the YMCA took Best Fitness Center. Coming in strong among clothing outfitters were the Green Room and Basics.

Details about the winners and runners-up are included in the July issue of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, which is available on newsstands now. For information about the 2012 Best of the Vineyard contest, visit the magazine’s Web site at mvmagazine.com.

The contest drew more than 1,000 people to cast their votes in 75 categories. Martha’s Vineyard Magazine has been sponsoring the Best of the Vineyard awards since 2001, carrying on a tradition begun by the Vineyard Gazette in 1996.
