The Chamber Music Society of Martha’s Vineyard is beginning their summer festival with concerts on Monday, July 11 at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown and Tuesday, July 12 at the Chilmark Community Center. Both concerts begin at 8 p.m.

The program is entitled from Bach to Piazzolla - Marimba. This should be a hint to anyone thinking the chamber music folks are trapped in some sort of music box of history’s making. They are experts at weaving programs of old masters with a new touch. Mashup artists you might say, to borrow a title all the rage among the kids today.

The performers are Ji-Hye Jung on marimba, Hye-Jin Kim on violin, Jacob Braun on cello, and Delores Stevens on piano.

The concert will feature Bach’s Sonata in g, Debussy’s Cello Sonata; Beethoven’s Ghost Trio, Schwantner’s Velocities, and Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango.

Tickets are $35 or $30 with the Island Card, at the door. Students are free.
