Ovid Osborn Ward, a well-known Vineyard artist, will be displaying new large work and some of his abstract pieces at an artist’s reception on Thursday, August 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Grandson of a whaler and captivated by the artifacts that filled his family’s Vineyard rooms, Mr. Ward graduated from the Art Center School of Design in California and went on to work for Chrysler, Hatteras Yachts and Crestline. With a master’s degree in industrial design, Mr. Ward designed and built custom sportfishing boats on the Vineyard for a number of years. He started painting “to have something to hang on the walls.” Friends encouraged him to sell his work, leading to a career as a fine artist.

His style and ability to capture the light and ever-changing waters of the Island have won him much appreciation on Martha’s Vineyard. All are welcome to meet the artist, enjoy refreshments and music and see his latest work at Post Office Square in Edgartown in the offices of his wife, Homes on Martha’s Vineyard, real estate broker Susan L. Cahoon. The office is at 236 Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in Edgartown. For more information, call 508-627-7205 or visit ovidward.com.
