Dipping the Paddle for Paradise

Time to put your paddle where your mouth is. Huh? How about, getting your big back up for clams and quahaugs.

Okay, had enough with the wordplay? Well here’s the deal. This Sunday, August 28 is the 21st annual Oar and Paddle Regatta. It’s a two-mile race beginning at the Little Bridge off of Beach Road in Oak Bluffs. The event is a benefit with all proceeds going to the Friends of Sengekontacket. Now that’s a cause everyone can get behind, something guaranteed to unite both spider crab and quahaug.

Registration is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Little Bridge. Bring the kids and the dogs too; there is a category for dog paddling (or paddling with your dog).

The cost is a mere $25. This includes the race, a postrace picnic, awards and a T-shirt.

Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 4.
