For the eighth consecutive year, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society is presenting the Manhattan Short Film Festival — where the audience gets to vote with the rest of the world on the selection of the winning film. Over two nights, tonight, Sept. 23, and Saturday, Sept. 24, both nights beginning at 7:30 p.m., the film society will screen the complete 120 minute program at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.

The process works like this: At each venue filmgoers will be handed an official program and a voting card. After the last film has been screened everyone votes for their favorite short film. The film society sends these votes on to the Manhattan Short Film headquarters and on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 10 p.m. the winner is announced and you get to see if your taste links up with that of the world.

This event also launches the film society’s off-season programs. That’s right, they haven’t forgotten about us year-round folk and are now turning their attention to helping us all enjoy the off-season with a little help from our celluloid heroes.

Tickets for the short film festival are $10 for general admission at door only and $7 for Martha’s Vineyard Film Society members (memberships available at the theatre).
